Demolition Kicks Off Transformation of Boston’s Geoff Moulder Leisure Complex

Significant strides are being made at Boston’s Geoff Moulder Leisure Complex with the initiation of demolition works, representing a crucial phase in the town’s £14.5 million investment programme. Dale Broughton, the Council leader, marked the inception as a ‘major landmark’, expressing his optimism that local residents would embrace the changes.

The project, connecting the leisure centre to Boston College’s Mayflower development via a new public plaza, aims to revitalise the area and improve local amenities. The transformation is further strengthened by a £280,000 donation from Sport England’s Swimming Pool Support Fund.

As the demolition proceeds, plans are envisaged to quickly transition into the construction phase, which will encompass the creation of a new entry and reception area. The second-floor refurbishment will include a multi-purpose studio, a fitness suite, and a state-of-the-art cycling studio. Furthermore, the existing fitness suite will be repurposed into a community volunteering and wellbeing hub, offering services from the Lincolnshire Community Volunteering Service.

The ground-floor gym’s changing facilities will also undergo substantial upgrades. Crucially, the leisure centre will maintain operations throughout the renovation process, with all facilities accessible via an improved booking system.

Previous enhancements took place at the Princess Royal Sports Arena in Wyberton, demonstrating upgraded ventilation systems and new pool covers.

This wide-ranging renovation effort is part of the government’s Levelling Up Fund and the Boston Town Deal. Broughton underscored the creation of a ‘lively new space for the entire community to enjoy’, stating ‘we are now entering a truly transformative phase in Boston’s regeneration’.
