The potential dismissal of Harbour Learning Trust from its management position at St Giles Academy in Lincoln is under discussion due to allegations of failing to uphold educational standards. Following a critical Ofsted inspection conducted in April, the Department for Education has called for a ‘rapid and sustainable improvement’ of the school under the management of Harbour Learning Trust. The inspection identified numerous concerns revolving around a poorly conceived curriculum, gaps in the students’ learning and insufficient support for those pupils requiring special education. The regional director of the Department for Education, Carol Gray, issued a warning to the trust, stating that a continued lack of significant improvements may result in a management shift.
CEO of Harbour Learning Trust, Richard Briggs, stated that changes are already being implemented, including the introduction of a robust leadership team, more teaching staff, and early signs of progress in student performance. Despite the school closing for the summer, a collective appeal to the community has been voiced for assistance in bringing about necessary enhancements.
