Birchwood and Yarborough Leisure Centres Set to Reopen After Refurbishments

The anticipated reopening of Birchwood Leisure Centre this coming Thursday symbolises a new era for Lincoln’s recreational facilities. Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL) has assumed control as the interim operator on a two-year contract, securing the future of services at both Birchwood and Yarborough centres. The City of Lincoln Council has verified that substantial enhancements have been carried out at both locations, with outdoor areas already operational since April. The leisure centres were initially shut on 3 April when previous operator Active Nation ceased operations due to financial difficulties exacerbated by the utility crisis. From Thursday onwards, Birchwood will start welcoming visitors again, whilst Yarborough plans a staged reopening, with the aim to be fully operational by 14 August. Council leader Naomi Tweddle has emphasised the significance of these centres, asserting their central role in not just promoting fitness but also as essential community hubs for Lincoln residents.
