Lincolnshire NHS Ready for Record Summer Tourist Influx

The Lincolnshire NHS is primed and ready for the yearly surge of summer visitors to its coast, particularly in desirable areas such as Skegness. Every year, the town’s usual population of 20,000 surges to an astounding 250,000 as holidaymakers make their way to the region. An expected occurrence, Rebecca Neno from the Lincolnshire Integrated Care Board advises that they prepare for it annually. In 2024, East Lindsey attracted a record 1.68 million visitors due to its seaside attractions and the picturesque Lincolnshire Wolds.

“Instead of a summer dip, we experience a unique surge,” Ms Neno commented. The Local Democracy Reporting Service points out that during the summer months, facilities like urgent care centres in Skegness, Louth, and Boston Pilgrim Hospital see an increase in activity. “Every year, we meticulously plan to ensure we’re prepared, and I have no concerns about the potential negative impact of tourism. In fact, visitor numbers are growing, with the trend for staycations in Lincolnshire continuing to be strong following Covid,” she added.

Ms Neno’s advice to tourists is to remember to pack their medication, bring a First Aid kit and to act responsibly. Minor ailments are common amongst families on holiday, and older visitors often have to manage multiple health conditions. The NHS is well-equipped to handle these demands.
