Scunthorpe Cake Shop Faces Financial Hit Due to Fake Refund Complaints

Scunthorpe’s Cakes by Andrea is grappling with substantial financial issues due to a spate of deceptive refund claims submitted through Just Eat, totalling over £1,000. The owner of the establishment, Andrea Blow, has revealed that a single customer made false non-delivery claims to acquire 44 refunds. Moreover, complaints about the cold delivery of ice cream have led to a £600 loss. Though Just Eat has pledged to pay £315, Ms Blow is still left with a large deficit. She has 22 employees and has voiced her dissatisfaction with the lack of backing from the platform. The Smoking Goat, a nearby business, has encountered similar difficulties. Its owner, Dan Stamp, has stated that fraudulent refunds have cost thousands of pounds over a half-decade. Both entrepreneurs are calling on Just Eat to liaise with local businesses before automatically processing refunds, as persistent financial losses may put jobs at risk.
