Title: Scunthorpe Set to Host Teen-Powered Event This Summer
Scunthorpe is gearing up for a free event this summer, orchestrated by its young populaces. The ‘Teen Takeover’—filled with music, creativity, and a variety of exciting activities—is tailored to the likes and interests of local teenagers. The event is scheduled to be held on 20 August from 11:00 to 16:00 BST, in multiple locations including Queen Elizabeth Memorial Gardens, the 20-21 Visual Arts Centre, and Scunthorpe Central Library.
North Lincolnshire Council’s leader, Councillor Rob Waltham, commended the initiative, saying it’s an excellent way of engaging the young members of the community with appealing activities free of charge. Structured as a bolstering day just before the release of GCSE results, the event features Imagi-con, something akin to a mini comic-con, with sci-fi icons, costume play, crafts, and a DJ line-up.
Participants will be able to capture moments with iconic vehicles such as Ecto-1 from Ghostbusters and the transformational Bumblebee car. Furthermore, Queen Elizabeth Memorial Gardens will be the venue for a roller rink disco, a BMX versus Parkour stunt show and interactive music sessions, courtesy of The School of Beatbox. Teen attendees will also have access to a Chill Out Zone and workshops teaching slime-making and ice sculpture, organised by Lab Rascals.
‘Believe in Youth’ will add to the excitement with their gaming bus and sports challenges, while the Scunthorpe Central Library has planned cooking sessions making use of air fryers. The zone allocated to UTC Engineering College will encourage attendees to try their hand at STEM activities.
Waltham shares that this teen-centred event will do more than just provide entertainment. He believes it will enliven the town centre, drawing in scores of youngsters and families into Scunthorpe, which will invariably benefit local businesses, cafés, and shops. Participants can also look forward to advice on education, career options, and CV writing, and performances from local young musicians throughout the day.
‘Teen Takeover’ is one of the key events under North Lincolnshire Council’s wider agenda of free summer activities, planned to occur throughout the school holidays.
