Historic Cleethorpes Church Set for Auction Following Fire Damage

The historic Beaconthorpe Methodist Church, situated on Grimsby Road in Cleethorpes, is going up for auction nearly two years after suffering fire damage. The Grade II listed former church is due to go under the hammer in an online property auction, scheduled by property consultancy firm Eddisons’ Mark Jenkinson, on the 27th of August. The guide price stands at £35,000, with planning permission already secured to turn the site into a residential property.

Adrian Little, the director at Mark Jenkinson, has lauded it as an ‘excellent opportunity’ for developers or investors. He highlighted the project’s potential for regeneration and stressed the need to preserve its historical value. Constructed in 1914, the church’s roof was obliterated in a fire in October 2023, leaving just the external walls and its notable tower intact. Last year, urgent repairs were sought to stabilise the structure. This auction offers an extraordinary chance to breathe new life into a landmark, a cornerstone in the history of the Beaconthorpe community.
