Half a Century of Hips: Lincolnshire’s Own ‘Elvis’ Keeps the King Alive

Though the King of Rock n Roll left us almost half a century ago, his spirit continues to rock through the passionate performances of Tony Enfield, a Boston local famous for embodying Elvis Presley for over five decades. This 63-year-old Elvis aficionado, fondly known as ‘Lincolnshire’s Elvis’, has been crooning the King’s hits since his mother stitched him his first sequined suit as a lad. From schoolboy performances in his sparkly ensemble to bigger stages, Tony’s love for Elvis has never waned. Favourites like ‘American Trilogy’ and ‘Gave Me a Reality’ feature on his setlist, alongside songs from other icons of the era such as Roy Orbison, Billy Fury, and The Drifters. Tony, who shares a humble background with the King, adopted the stage name Tony ‘Memphis’ King as a tribute to his idol. He even applied for Britain’s Got Talent in 2009, impressing the selection committee with his vocal prowess. Unfortunately, a personal loss kept him from performing in front of the judges. Despite this setback, Tony continues to perform, particularly for charities and for his cherished local Blackfriars theatre, where he’s been a regular for 14 years. A true embodiment of the King’s generous spirit, Tony’s upcoming summer concert is expected to keep audiences all shook up while raising funds for a good cause. As Lincolnshire’s Elvis, Tony keeps the King’s legacy alive, proving that the wonder of Elvis hasn’t left the building just yet.
