A former police inspector, Ian Walpole, has been found guilty in a disciplinary hearing for revealing sensitive police information to citizens via WhatsApp. Walpole didn’t stop at that, he also used his personal mobile to snap pictures of intelligence reports and other classified information from police databases. After admitting to his deeds, which can be traced back to 2017, Walpole extended his apologies and stepped down from his position at Humberside Police in January. A tribunal in Goole concluded that Walpole’s actions were a clear breach of confidentiality, amounting to gross misconduct. Had he not already resigned, he would have faced immediate expulsion from the force without any warning.
