Lincolnshire Mayor Embarks on 24-hour Rubbish Roundup for Charity

North East Lincolnshire’s very own Mayor, Cllr Steve Beasant of East Marsh Ward, launched an extraordinary 24-hour litter picking challenge on April 1, starting at Immingham Civic Centre. The Mayor aims to cover all council wards before wrapping up the marathon effort in Grimsby at 9 o’clock on April 2. Four worthy local charities – Friendship at Home, YMCA Humber, Nurtrio, and Jax’s Stoma Fundraising – stand to benefit from his efforts. As he set off, Cllr Beasant revealed he had already amassed an impressive £1,900, and urged locals to help him reach the £2,000 mark. He jovially reminded everyone that it was April Fool’s day, but there’s no fooling about when it comes to litter – the clear message being, don’t drop it. This isn’t Cllr Beasant’s first charity challenge. In his second term as Mayor, he has already taken part in a 24-hour walk around Grant Thorold Park. The intrepid Mayor, who walks a daily average of 20,000 steps, remained undaunted by the challenge ahead, proving that age is no barrier to community service. He’s over 70 and shows no signs of slowing down.
