History buffs in Lincolnshire are in for a treat as archaeological treasures unearthed during a community dig in Boston are due to go on display. The two-week excavation that took place at Rosegarth in October 2024 unveiled an array of artefacts which include pottery, glass, brick, tile, metalwork, and shells. A notably intriguing aspect of the find was the discovery of 500 animal bone fragments implying that a medieval abattoir might have once existed in the area.
The artefacts, post-cleaning and historical validation, will be up for exhibition at Boston’s Guildhall, starting from Friday, 29th August and continuing until year end. This exhibition, orchestrated by Boston Borough Council, offers an exclusive chance for visitors to learn about the details of the excavation and to actually hold some of the artefacts.
This event underscores the rich historical tapestry of Boston and provides an enriching experience for locals and tourists keen on learning about the region’s past.
