PC Christopher Wagstaff, an officer at the Newark Police Station, was issued a final written warning following a severe misconduct hearing. This was due to his inappropriate behaviour during a stag party in Lincoln. The event, which took place on the 8th of February, saw PC Wagstaff exhibiting discourteous and offensive behaviour towards security personnel, a local warden, and his peers in the police force. Derbyshire Police Chief Constable Rachel Swann led the misconduct panel that heard how PC Wagstaff was denied entry to a pub in Lincoln and then reacted inappropriately. PC Wagstaff was found to be in violation of behavioural standards by the Nottinghamshire Police who noted a lack of respect and decorum, as well as disreputable conduct on his part. PC Wagstaff, who conceded to being ‘considerably inebriated’ during that time, expressed remorse for his deeds and recognised his conduct as ‘unacceptable’. Deputy Chief Constable Rob Griffin highlighted the significance of upholding the public’s trust in police standards, whether the individual police officers are on or off duty.
