Legal Delays Postpone Construction of Scunthorpe Police Station

The development of a new police station in Scunthorpe, originally intended to replace the existing Corporation Street site, has been postponed until 2026 due to intricate legal discussions. This decision lies between the office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for Humberside and North Lincolnshire Council. The station, which is to be located in the Queen Elizabeth Quarter, was granted planning permission last December. However, due to legal complications, the project’s commencement has been deferred.

This £13.8 million station, projected to accommodate 250 Humberside Police staff, is likely to be operational by 2027. The site will feature modern conveniences such as an interview room, a gym, and a blend of open-plan and individual offices. This redevelopment forms a part of a broader scheme where the existing police station, coupled with the adjacent Magistrates’ Court and Shelford House, will be transferred over to the council’s possession.

Simultaneously, a public consultation has been proposed with regards to relocating Beverley Police Station to a more accessible site in East Yorkshire. PCC Jonathan Evison reaffirms his dedication to devising a facility that is easily visible and reachable for the community.

This narrative was initially reported by the BBC and subsequently adapted for The Lincoln Post.
