Mayor Beasant is swapping his mayoral duties for a litter picker, as he commences a 24-hour charity litter-pick marathon. Aiming to fill the coffers of his selected charities, Nurtrio, Friendship at Home, YMCA, and Jax’s Stoma Appeal, Beasant kicked off his mission in Immingham at 9am on Tuesday and is set to wrap up at 9am Wednesday in Grimsby’s Grant Thorold park. Councillor Beasant is not just picking up the mayoral duties, but also the rubbish, keeping all 15 wards spick and span. As he enters the twilight of his mayoral tenure, Beasant launched this initiative on 1st April and urged his constituents to ‘stop playing the fool’ and dumping rubbish. ‘In my final stint as mayor, I want to make the most of my remaining time to benefit my chosen charities,’ Beasant stated. ‘I believe that this litter-pick marathon will not only foster community spirit but also contribute to a cleaner borough. It’s through such initiatives that we can make North East Lincolnshire even greater than it is today.’ No stranger to challenges, Beasant had previously completed a 24-hour walk around Grant Thorold park. ‘Despite being over 70, I keep active and don’t let age hinder me,’ he added.
