Train Services Between Lincoln and Nottingham Set to Double

Train services between Lincoln Central Station and Nottingham are set to double as part of a new timetable starting this December. The increase from one to two trains per hour is one of several enhancements planned for the route.

In addition to the bolstered frequency, expected improvements include increased train speeds, going up from 55mph (89kph) to 70mph (113kph). This will be made possible through the resignalling of the Swinderby line and the consequent closure of its signal box.

The enhancements were unveiled during a Lincolnshire County Council meeting by representatives from Network Rail and East Midlands Railway. They uncovered that funding for the improved timetable will be secured through a combination of increased rail fares, augmented passenger numbers, and higher revenue generation.

Moreover, Chris Patman from East Midlands Railway voiced plans to curtail turn-around times between trains, leading to an expected 20% surge in seating capacity. He also mentioned initiatives targeting reductions in passenger waiting times for those travelling between Sleaford and Boston.

East Midlands Railway is also investing £28.2m to upgrade its train fleet, introducing better seating arrangements and improving CCTV quality.

While acknowledging the initiatives, Reform UK councillor Ingrid Sheard emphasised the significance of not neglecting smaller rural stations. She also stressed the need to address station safety concerns to assure passengers of their security.
