Lincolnshire Prison Officer’s Misconduct Leads to Privacy Breach

A correctional officer from Chapel St Leonards has been convicted at Lincoln Crown Court for misconduct in public office. Sarah Spencer, 54, was found guilty of wrongfully obtaining an inmate’s criminal record at HMP Lincoln and forwarding it to her son. The private data ended up on Facebook, triggering a complaint from the inmate’s family. Spencer, who was stationed at North Sea Camp near Boston, received a suspended sentence of four months. The court was informed that Spencer was appropriately trained and understood the importance of maintaining the confidentiality of such information, however, her actions were influenced by her son’s insistence. This case underscores worries about privacy and confidence in local prisons.
