A Lincolnshire-based initiative has called for all beaches to integrate accessible wheelchairs. The call came after an enthusiastic patron, Jo Whitehouse, expressed deep satisfaction from using one in Ingoldmells, Lincolnshire. Whitehouse, a keen triathlete and Channel swimmer, used a beach wheelchair over the summer, describing the experience as “amazing” and “grin-inducing”. Beach Ability Lincolnshire, the group behind the campaign, has the goal of making every Lincolnshire beach readily accessible, with an expansion plan to include two more resorts next year.
As it stands, Ingoldmells provides seven distinct models of beach wheelchairs, available at no cost. Teresa Marie Price, the Chair of Trustees for the charity, is currently in talks with local councils with respect to obtaining appropriate permissions. The aspiration is to expand the initiative by March 2026. The initiative has earned accolades within Lincolnshire County Council, with Tourism Manager, Mary Powell, hailing it as an initiative that improves family experiences at the beach.
