Third ‘Unwanted’ Estate Looms Over Lincolnshire Village Where Homes Can’t Be Shifted

In Bardney, a quaint Lincolnshire village, locals are vexed over the submission of plans for yet another housing estate when the current homes are proving a tough sell. The proposal, which anticipates the construction of 54 new homes on green space, borders existing abodes on Abbey Road and Wragby Road. One local, whose property neighbours the development site, points the finger at the village’s lack of amenities as the cause for the stalled housing market. She reveals that a staggering 14 properties remain unsold on the new estate, with rumours of a construction slowdown on a second approved site due to the lack of local interest. The limited amenities, poor bus service and increased crime rates have created a less than appealing living situation for prospective buyers. However, planning officials have no jurisdiction over housing demand in their decision-making process. The submission was put forth by Fytche-Taylor Planning Ltd, representing the estate of the deceased landowner. Some Bardney residents are voicing concerns over the proximity of the new homes to their own. The plans, which are under review by West Lindsey District Council, seek initial permission with details of the layout to be submitted at a later date. The proposed site is currently surrounded by properties on three sides and won’t extend further into the village.
