Three-time speedway world champ, Tai Woffinden, is no stranger to life in the fast lane. However, a horrific crash during a race meet in Poland on Sunday has left the Scunthorpe-born racer fighting for his life. Woffinden’s wife, Faye, has since taken to Instagram, expressing her gratitude for the outpouring of love and support amidst these trying times. ‘Our hearts are heavy, and we’re taking things one moment at a time,’ she candidly shared. The 34-year-old daredevil was airlifted to hospital following a collision with a teammate. Woffinden, who recently made a comeback after a broken elbow benched him in 2024, was placed into a medically-induced coma after surgery for multiple fractures and a chest injury. Faye Woffinden pleaded for ‘patience and understanding,’ hinting that her family needed ‘a little more time’ before they could give further updates on Tai’s condition. ‘Please know how deeply grateful we are for your patience, your love, and your support – it truly means the world to us,’ she added. Woffinden, a decorated rider with stints at Scunthorpe, Poole, Wolverhampton and Sheffield, had his sights set on the 2026 competition, following his Grand Prix world titles in 2013, 2015 and 2018, and runner-up finishes in 2016 and 2020.
