Grimsby Celebrates Opening of New Multi-Use Sports Facility

Grimsby’s latest multi-use sports facility has officially opened its doors to the public, featuring a myriad of free activities for local residents. Located on Kent Street, the facility was purchased by YMCA Humber from the council in August 2023.

Key features of the site include a multi-use games area (MUGA), which houses two 2G pitches. These pitches are designed to accommodate a variety of sports, including football, hockey, netball, and futsal. North East Lincolnshire Mayor Janet Goodwin, who was present at the opening ceremony, celebrated the facility as a invaluable addition to the community, providing diverse sporting opportunities for area residents.

In addition to the MUGA, a newly refurbished skatepark awaits skate-enthusiasts and changing rooms have been equipped for comfort. This upgrade was largely made possible due to the PlayZone initiative, generously funded by the Premier League, the Football Association, Sport England, and the Football Foundation.

Kate Conway, YMCA Humber’s Chief Executive, emphasised the secure environment the facility provides for individuals of all ages to engage in physical activity and enjoy their time. Conway further noted the presence of a community skate park and a youth hub at the site, which will provide a spectrum of free activities and mentorship for young people aged between eight and 19 years old.
