A heartwarming family day is planned to take place in Grimsby in honour of Josephine Chatterton, a young woman from Cleethorpes who sadly died from a sudden cardiac arrest at just 24 years old. The event has been organised with the hope of raising funds for a heart screening initiative to prevent similar tragedies from happening. The family fun run will take place this Sunday at King George V Stadium, continuing from nine o’clock in the morning until three in the afternoon, where it will feature a selection of stalls, games, and food for sale, with all proceeds going to the Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) foundation.
Josephine’s mother, Monica Chatterton, has organised this event with the intention of funding heart screenings for those aged between 14 to 35 in North East Lincolnshire. All those who participate will be rewarded with a medal, while the £5 entrance fee will go straight towards the heart screenings. Lincs Inspire, a charitable trust in the local area, has stated their intention to carry out the screenings at the Grimsby Health and Wellbeing Centre and hopes to reach 100 local youths.
Monica shared her memories of her daughter, claiming she would have been a staunch supporter of the campaign, whose aim is to prevent young lives being lost prematurely to undiagnosed heart conditions. The initiative has a fundraising goal of £6,800 to coincide with the anniversary of Josephine’s death, and hopes this sum will cover the costs of a single screening event.
The community spirit of the event was emphasised by Jessica Young from Lincs Inspire, stating, “This is the first time we have held this kind of free family fun day. We hope it will provide something for everyone – an event for the whole community.”
