Artist’s ‘Papestry’ Brings Lincoln’s Historic Bailgate to Life

Matthew Wright, an accomplished architectural artist from Lincoln, is embarking on a challenging endeavour to bring to life the precise details of Bailgate, one of the city’s most revered and antiquated streets. Drawing his creative muse from the famed Bayeux Tapestry, Wright is diligently recreating Bailgate on a vast piece of paper using ink, with the intent of celebrating and preserving Lincoln’s magnificent architectural history. This historic trail, extending from the grand Lincoln castle and cathedral up to the venerable Newport Arch, boasts in excess of 20 listed structures. Several residences and businesses that sit along this scenic route date back to the 13th Century, making it a live testament of Lincoln’s rich and notable history.
