Concerns Raised Over Proposed Chicken Farm in Toynton St Peter

Residents of Toynton St Peter in Lincolnshire have voiced serious concerns about a proposed chicken farm’s potential capacity for housing up to 180,000 chickens. The proposal has led to the commissioning of an air quality report by the Coalition Against Factory Farming. The report suggests that the chicken farm’s emissions could possibly match pollution levels akin to a high-traffic segment of the M25. The report’s concern centered around fine particles identified as PM2.5, a pollutant potentially harmful to health.

Dr Michael Bull, an expert in air quality, underscored that these harmful particles would be part of the farm’s emissions. The local Toynton Action Group, which includes long-time residents Lyndon and Maggie Brace, is in opposition to the planning application submitted to East Lindsey District Council. The scale of opposition in the village is visible, with banners around the village illustrating the residents’ fears over health repercussions due to heightened concentrations of PM2.5.

Assurances from planning agents regarding the farm’s distance from residences have failed to convince some villagers. Among them is Alison Musson, who worries about potential health risks. Alison, like others, chose to live in the countryside for its promise of cleaner air.
