Lincolnshire Village in Tizzy as ‘Unfitting’ Site Chosen for New Bungalows

Despite a wave of disapproval, a West Lindsey village has given the green light to the construction of ten bungalows, with some councillors decrying the location as ‘utterly unfitting’. The one and two-bedroom social houses are slated for Keelby, on land just off the bustling A18 Barton Street. The majority of the planning committee have thrown their hat in with the scheme, citing high demand for such accommodation, during a Wednesday meeting. However, naysayers argue that the site is too secluded for potential residents, who may be elderly or have health complications. The remaining paddock, where the bungalows are set to spring up, will be reimagined as a public space. The plans were brought forward by Ongo, a social housing provider with roots in North Lincolnshire. Matt Deakins, a spokesperson for the applicant, argued that the village is being asked to sacrifice a portion of open space for the construction of ten affordable homes, which will also see the space opened to the public for the first time. However, some councillors, including Councillor Owen Bierley, have branded it as ‘the wrong location.’ The controversial decision was eventually given the go-ahead by a majority of the committee.
