Title: Two People Freed from Beach Mud in Cleethorpes
Two people were successfully extracted after they were caught in beach mud in Lincolnshire. The Cleethorpes Coastguard was alerted to the situation close to Humberston Fitties at approximately 11:20 GMT on Sunday. The pair, comprised of a man and a woman, were ensnared about 20 metres from firm land. Specialist mud rescue operatives utilised spades, water, and pressurised air to liberate them without any need for subsequent medical treatment.
The coastguard confirmed that the two individuals were not from the local area and were uninformed of the specific risks associated with coastal mud in the region. They stressed that although there are cautionary signs placed along the coastline, these may not always be apparent depending on the points at which beach visitors enter.
On the same day, the coastguard was called into action again following a report of a potential explosive device at Cleethorpes seafront. The vicinity was secured and explosive ordnance disposal personnel were called in. However, the Humberside Police later verified that the item in question, described as a ‘bottle-shaped metal bar protruding from the ground,’ was simply an old supporting pillar from a stair set, revealed due to the sand being eroded by recent high tides and robust winds.
