Parking Cameras Enhance Safety at Schools in North East Lincolnshire

Parking cameras have recently been installed outside Elliston Primary in Cleethorpes and Eastfield Primary in Immingham, marking the latest safety initiative by North East Lincolnshire Council. This means that 14 schools are now benefiting from this safety measure, which aims to enhance child safety by preventing vehicles from parking outside schools during busy periods. Councillor Ron Shepherd has stressed that safety at schools is a top priority. He has confirmed that these cameras are merely one part of a comprehensive strategy responding to the need for child safety.

Since the commencement of this year, the scheme has issued 924 penalty charge notices to drivers who decided to ignore the regulations. Although initially,rule-breakers will be let off with a warning, repeated violation will attract fines of £70. If payment is done within 14 days, this sum will be reduced to £35.

Parental support for the measure is strong, particularly among those with children attending Great Coates Primary, which subscribed to the scheme past year. Amy Seddon, for example, who has a child attending the school, has spoken out about the importance of curbing illegal parking to secure her daughter’s safe commute to school. Councillor Shepherd emphasised once again that the essential aim of this measure is not to increase revenue, but rather to ensure maximum safety for both children and pedestrians.
