Refurbishment of Bourne Town Hall Set to Begin in January

The Bourne Town Hall, a cherished landmark with over 200 years of history in Lincolnshire, is due for a significant refurbishment. The restoration project will kick off this coming January. The historic Grade II listed Georgian building, which has been used as a sessions house, fire station, and council offices, received a generous grant of over £3 million from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The Bourne Town Hall Trust is currently in the midst of choosing a principal contractor, with a decision expected to be announced in December. The project is slated for completion by Easter 2027.

As a part of the restoration, the town hall’s clock is set to be recommissioned. Plans also include the restoration of the clock tower, and the installation of lifts to improve accessibility. The building will also undergo a modernisation process with the installation of improved insulation, solar panels, and heat pump technology. Post-restoration, the venue aims to become a hub for culture and heritage, providing various educational and entertainment opportunities for all ages. Furthermore, it will also open up employment and volunteering prospects within the community.

The Bourne Town Hall Trust, established in 2017, is a dedicated team of volunteers at its helm. The Trust is committed to raising funds to cater to the building’s restoration and ongoing operational costs. To bridge the financial gap not covered by the National Lottery Heritage Fund grant, the Trust continues to organise various fundraising events, such as quizzes and music performances.
