Concerns are growing in Lincolnshire about the rising trend of teenage pregnancy, particularly as it contributes to the number of young people classed as not in education, employment, or training (NEET). Latest figures released on 4th November 2025 shine a light on this troubling trend, highlighting a significant increase in pregnant teenagers listed as NEET between July to September 2025.
The figures, taken from a dataset titled ‘Young Peoples Situation Post-School Age’, underline the issues faced in districts such as South Holland, South Kesteven, and West Lindsey. In each of these areas, data shows an alarming increase, with at least one 17-year-old in each district classified as NEET due to pregnancy. Disturbingly, the issue is not limited solely to these individuals. Additional cases were noted in both South Kesteven and West Lindsey, with the total number of 16 and 17-year-olds affected appearing to increase.
These figures starkly contrast with those from the previous quarter, indicating a problematic trend that could have repercussions for local communities. For the residents of Lincolnshire, the statistics signify a much larger, personal issue: young individuals facing considerable obstacles due to their circumstances.
The trend raises serious doubts about the sufficiency of current support systems in place for young parents and their children. There is an evident need for increased awareness and education surrounding this matter in a bid to stem the tide of rising numbers in future reports.
As Lincolnshire grapples with the implications of these findings, it’s hoped that it will galvanise a discussion about improving support and resources for young people in these formative years of their lives.
