A Week Filled with Remembrance, Cheer and Community Spirit in Lincolnshire

This past week in Lincolnshire was enriched with remembrance, celebration, and community resilience, marking it as a period worth remembering. The fifth edition of Window Wanderland illuminated the streets of Horncastle with an added glimmer, while Remembrance Sunday observed tributes dispersed across the county, including Lincoln Cathedral which was suitably bathed in a red glow. Observances escalated with the welcomed return of poppy displays at the Grantham Guildhall, intensifying the sense of solemn truth and remembrance.

Moreover, local talent was in no short supply, as evidenced by the Lincolnshire pair who crafted the most anticipated UK Christmas advert of the year, thus injecting some festive spirit into our television screens. Bolstering the seasonal joviality, Louth looks forward to the upcoming Santa Run, a masterstroke aiming to spread festivity whilst simultaneously fundraising for Cancer Research UK. In another buoyant event, Humberston Health Club’s 80s Revival Week collected an impressive total of £38,000 for the charity Barnardo’s!

We also took the time this week to praise the unwavering commitment and service of our local champions. A care home worker celebrated two decades of service following her move from Germany to Lincoln, while the encouraging ‘Pawsitive’ Friendship Project spurred further volunteer involvement to tackle concerningly heightened loneliness levels in North East Lincolnshire. In more sombre moments, the community collectively offered poignant tributes to recently lost loved ones, including a beloved father and other dearly missed family members. The Save the Lincoln Imp music venue campaign in Scunthorpe also garnered unwavering support from the community.

With a distinct international twist, a delegation from Canada visited Grimsby, generating intrigue about our overseas namesake. Locally, we rejoiced in the achievements of Grimsby-born actor Thomas Turgoose, who graciously signed a skateboard to be raffled for charity.

A week of fluctuating emotions, but the unyielding strength and unity of the Lincolnshire community remained constant. As we reflect on the past week, we also look forward to the weeks ahead with the same unwavering community spirit.
