University of Lincoln Alumni Behind John Lewis Ad Celebrate Success

The outstanding abilities of University of Lincoln graduates, Ollie Agius and Pete Ioulianou, have been praised extensively following their involvement in this year’s John Lewis Christmas advert, which has been universally well received. The advert examines concepts of masculinity and emotion through the narrative of a teenager connecting with his father through music. Agius shared his elation at the massive reaction, stating that it was unprecedented in their professional lives.

The advert presents an emotive narrative in which a father receives a vinyl record, sparking nostalgic memories of his dancing days in the 90s, underscored by a refreshed version of Alison Limerick’s ‘Where Love Lives’. The campaign, which was created over a period of eight months, highlights the importance of thoughtful gifting when verbal communication is insufficient, a sentiment mirrored by Ioulianou.

Dave Pettitt, a senior lecturer at the University of Lincoln, praised the achievement, underscoring the cultural significance of the campaign. Ioulianou fondly reminisced about his time in Lincoln, echoing the city’s allure and historical landmarks such as the cathedral and Steep Hill.

The triumph of Agius and Ioulianou acts as a motivating demonstration of the creative skills fostered at the University of Lincoln, and illustrates the city’s continuous contributions to the arts and media fields.
