A Week of Remembrance, Generosity, and Community Spirit in Lincolnshire

This week, Lincolnshire’s people have shown an exceptional spirit of unity, charity, and adventure. We’ve seen an incredible surge of community backing across the county, as families, friends, and neighbours gathered in silence on Remembrance Sunday to honour our Armed Forces. Almost 2,000 individuals attended a remembrance service at Lincoln Cathedral, reflecting the high esteem in which we hold those who have, and continue to, serve our country.

In a lighter vein, the much-loved comedian Alan Carr warmed our hearts with his benevolence, donating his winnings to Neuroblastoma UK, a charity established by a local couple. Equally inspiring was the story of courageous Clara from Cleethorpes, who joined the Children in Need Choir, affirming that heroes come in all shapes and sizes.

This week also highlighted our county’s dedication to community support and innovation. Bob’s Brainwaves extended their dementia support kits throughout the county, offering free kits to families to help them manage the hurdles posed by dementia. In Grimsby, a new programme was initiated to aid veterans in their transition to civilian life, reflecting our unbroken commitment to those who’ve dedicated their lives to serve our country.

Equally exciting, local inhabitant Alice Foster took her coffee-making expertise to the global stage by participating in Netflix’s Squid Game: The Challenge – quite a novelty for our local news! Furthermore, deserved praises were heaped on the University of Lincoln alumni for their remarkable John Lewis advert, reflecting our inhabitants’ inventive excellence.

Lastly, in the spirit of adventure, the hobby of metal detecting is thriving in our fields, while our cherished Lincoln Castle may continue to host Lucy and Norman, the renowned dragon installations, for another three years. Following nearly ten years of closure, Waddington pub is once again ready to serve, symbolising a ray of hope for our local enterprises.

Indeed, from charity to creativity, remembrance to resilience, this week has been an impressive showcase of what makes Lincolnshire exceptional. Here’s to another week of unity and community spirit, Lincolnshire!
