Brigg Town FC Celebrates £1.7m Facilities Upgrade

Brigg Town FC, recognised as one of the world’s oldest football clubs, has heralded a fresh chapter with a £1.7m renewal of its facilities. The club, dating back to 1864 and becoming a community interest company since 2017, has concluded a sizeable upgrade encompassing a 3G floodlit pitch, expanded changing rooms, and a renovated clubhouse. Chairman Jim Huxford conveyed his joy over the new facilities, highlighting that their availability to everyone in the local community. The all-weather 3G pitch especially merits attention. Mr. Huxford explained that in contrast to the old pitch that deteriorated rapidly, the new pitch facilitates continuous play all year round. This upgrade helps to accommodate more teams, with children’s teams now also able to utilise the grounds. The club is joining forces with local councils, schools, and voluntary groups aiming to enhance sports involvement. Programs include Wildcats sessions targeting girls, intentions for new girls’ teams, a disability team, and walking football tailored to those over 50. The refurbished clubhouse and function room have already found favour, accommodating community gatherings, weddings, and parties. The redevelopment was brought to fruition aided by a £50,000 endowment from North Lincolnshire Council, which secured additional funding. Council leader Rob Waltham commended the renovation, underscoring its benefits to both the club and the broader community. Brigg Town FC is a contender in the Northern Counties East League Division One.
