£1m Boost to Transform Lincolnshire’s Rural Transport

Title: £1m Investment to Revamp Lincolnshire’s Rural Public Transport

The government is set to invest over a million pounds to improve public transport services across Lincolnshire, with particular focus on the typically overlooked rural areas. This action has been prompted by the expanded transport authority of the Greater Lincolnshire Combined County Authority (GLCCA), gained through a recent devolution deal. The GLCCA’s transport board has confirmed the allocation details of the funding in their latest meeting. As part of the distribution, Lincolnshire County Council is to receive £367,996, North East Lincolnshire Council £133,834, and North Lincolnshire Council £138,048. The remaining funds, to the tune of £423,722, will be channelled into the development of the Greater Lincolnshire local transport scheme.

The Greater Lincolnshire Mayor, Dame Andrea Jenkyns, emphasised that focusing on neglected areas of the county was crucial. “There are certain areas in our county that have seen no investment whatsoever. It’s extremely important that we address this, while also keeping the broader picture in mind,” she stated. Offering support to these comments, Councillor Craig Leyland, the leader of the East Lindsey District Council, said, “Our constituents have been patiently waiting for much-needed systematic changes. Fair distribution of funds forms only a part of the issue, it is more about meeting strategic needs.” The GLCCA intends to schedule meetings with government officials in the coming year, aiming to garner further funding and raise awareness for the rural communities of Lincolnshire.
