In the tranquil town of Bourne, situated in South Lincolnshire, a legacy was created that would permanently influence the world of Formula One racing. Raymond Mays laid the foundations for this in 1950 when he founded BRM (British Racing Motors), thereby beginning a notable chapter in motorsport history. BRM gained prominence by becoming the pioneering all-British team to secure both the Formula One drivers’ and constructors’ titles in 1962, under the leadership of the iconic Graham Hill. Even on its 75th anniversary, BRM continues to be a cherished presence in the classic racing scene, reinforcing the substantial part Bourne played in the international motorsport world. This article uses archival audio from the British Racing Motors Film Archive, Wolf Motorsport and British Pathé to provide its insight.
