St Barnabas Hospice in Lincoln has confirmed the future discontinuation of its Admiral Nurse Service, a support system for dementia sufferers, due to financial considerations. The closure will result in two dementia specialist nurses losing their roles. Initially created in 2019 with backing from Dementia UK, the service has been footed entirely by St Barnabas from 2022 onwards. Despite this setback, the hospice remains committed to offering care for dementia patients who are in need of palliative attention. Rebecca Franks, who holds the position of director of patient care at St Barnabas, expressed her appreciation for the dedication shown by the nurses, emphasising that the resolution should not cast doubt on their commitment. The decision came about following an exhaustive review of the hospice’s facilities, highlighting the necessity for such a challenging choice to be made to ensure long-term viability.
