Investigation Launched After Train ‘Lurch’ Incident Near Grantham

Several passengers experienced minor injuries when a train operated by LNER, journeying from Middlesbrough to London King’s Cross, exceeded the speed limit by more than double as it travelled through Grantham. This resulted in the train ‘jerking sideways’. The incident, which happened on 26th September, came about when the train was diverted onto another track with a 25mph speed limit, contrasted with the 56mph speed the train was maintaining. The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) explained. Incidents of overspeeding on two previous occasions at Spital Junction, Peterborough in 2022 and 2023 have initiated further probe by the RAIB. A digest focusing on safety is set to be issued soon, which will put forward suggestions for enhancing safety measures. LNER has underscored its dedication to passenger safety and is teaming up with RAIB in connection with this incident.
