Legal Challenge Looms Over Council’s 3G Pitch Plans

East Lindsey District Council (ELDC) is facing a potential legal battle over its plans to construct a 3G football pitch on Wood Lane playing fields in Louth. Campaigners, led by James Timson of the Save Wood Lane group, argue that the location is inappropriate for such a development. They have vowed to seek a judicial review if the council grants planning permission. Timson has voiced concerns that the council should be focusing on developing new sites for football facilities, while preserving existing green spaces. Although the application is tipped for approval at the planning meeting this Thursday, ELDC has refrained from making any further comments. Timson stated that residents are prepared to legally contest the approval, initially through a request for a judicial review of the planning process. He warned that if the 3G pitch is constructed on Wood Lane Playing Field, residents may be driven to take legal steps to substantiate claims of statutory noise nuisance. He stressed the importance of ELDC being aware of this potential issue, citing instances where 3G pitches have been erected in unsuitable locations across England, leading to abatement notices and even closures.
