Drought Causes Significant Damage to Lincolnshire Roads

Title: Lincolnshire Roads Suffer Significant Damage Due to Drought

Revised Content:

This year, the road network across Lincolnshire has sustained substantial damage as a result of an exceptionally dry summer, one of the driest on record, based on a recent report from Lincolnshire County Council’s highways department. The department’s report underlines that the county’s roads were not constructed to withstand such extreme drought-related strain, leading to sizeable shifts and fissures, even on the typically resilient A-roads.

Barrier Bank in Crowland has been shut since September due to serious damage. Whilst temporary fixes were originally considered, the scope of the damage necessitated a comprehensive examination for more enduring solutions. The council has been proactively repairing the road network, undertaking measures such as crack sealing, patching, and imposing temporary speed limits as required.

Despite the vast repair work undertaken, the report identifies 46 sites still suffering from cracking and unevenness, suggesting that some roads may need total reconstruction. The issue will be further addressed by councillors at the forthcoming highways and transport scrutiny committee meeting on Monday.
