In a move to bolster the local economy, The Confederation of British Industry (CBI) has presented an ambitious action plan for Greater Lincolnshire’s inaugural Mayor. With just three weeks remaining before the county’s populace cast their votes among six contenders, the battle for the lead of the newly-formed Greater Lincolnshire Combined County Authority is heating up. The victor will preside over an annual investment budget of £24m and be responsible for areas such as economic development, skills, and transportation. The deadline to register to vote in this significant election is Friday, April 11. The manifesto, put forth by Beckie Hart, CBI’s Yorkshire and Humber regional director, paints Greater Lincolnshire at a crossroads, primed to unlock its full potential. Hart insists the manifesto offers a bold roadmap that promotes growth, pushes towards net zero goals, and ensures both businesses and communities flourish in the face of forthcoming challenges. The 13-page document, comprised of 13 propositions for the future Mayor, goes beyond economic growth to improve residents’ quality of life. Among the plans are calls for the Mayor to work with the UK Mayors Group to boost its collective voice and attract UK investment. The manifesto also champions continued support for the burgeoning logistics sector and the development of the region’s ports. Other proposals include the acceleration of a recognised cluster of innovation-focused defence companies and the adoption of new technologies by businesses. The manifesto concludes with a rallying cry – ‘Together, we can create a prosperous and sustainable future for Greater Lincolnshire, ensuring that our businesses and communities thrive for generations to come.’
