Major Repairs Set to Begin on Yarborough Hill to Prevent Further Slippage

Major repair work on Yarborough Hill, Lincoln, is due to start from March 2026, with the project’s completion anticipated around July 2026. The Lincolnshire County Council has allocated around £1.7 million for an essential plan to ensure the stability of Yarborough Road’s embankments. The project’s urgency has been highlighted by Councillor Michael Cheyne, in charge of highways, due to the area’s instability that has resulted in apparent fissures in neighbouring buildings and on the road surface. Councillor Cheyne cited inferior drainage in the previous concrete structure as a contributing cause of the slippage.

Emphasising the importance of Yarborough Road to the city, Labour Councillor Kev Clarke strongly encouraged rapid intervention. The current proposed approach involves replacing the failing retaining walls with reinforced embankments. Local residents should be prepared for potential overnight road closures throughout the repair schedule.
