Join the Stamford Wassailing Workshop to Sing and Celebrate

Residents of Lincolnshire are beckoned to partake in an exclusive workshop tailored to delve into the charming art of wassailing. This age-old English tradition is mainly performed with hopes of promising abundant apple yield. This tuition-free event is orchestrated by South Kesteven District Council and aims to equip attendees for the forthcoming Stamford Wassail parade on Saturday, 3rd January. Councillor Paul Stokes, who also functions as the Deputy Leader of the council, is publicly buoyant about this event which honours enduring Old English orchard customs. The proposed workshop is slated to be held from 14:30 to 16:00 at Christchurch in Green Lane, where attendees will be given all required resources along with specific instructions. Participants will be guided to fabricate their personal lanterns to carry in the procession, which commences at 16:00 and concludes at Stamford Community Orchard by 16:30. The council unreservedly encourages attendees to carry along items like torches, whistles, and wooden spoons to immerse fully in this vibrant tradition. Stokes asserted that the role of such noise-inclusive items is primarily to ward off any malevolent spirits. This is typically succeeded by choral singing and jubilant drinking. Although the workshop is open to members of the public, it is suggested to make prior booking.
