Lincolnshire Hockey Club Forced Off Home Turf Twice in a Year

Leadenham Hockey Club finds itself without a home for the second time in a year, marking a ‘massive loss’ to the team. The club had to abandon their usual playing turf at RAF Cranwell due to safety concerns just prior to Christmas. Subsequently, they moved their games to Yarborough Leisure Centre. Unfortunately, the centre closed abruptly last week as Active Nation ceased operations. The future of the club hangs in the balance as they anxiously await news on whether a new provider can be found to reopen the centres. Co-chair Ellie Chambers expressed their misfortune at losing both pitches within such a short time frame. Despite the men’s team having a successful season, the disruption has led to the loss of a women’s team, the relegation of another, and a drop in junior players from twelve to a mere handful. The sudden closure of Yarborough led to a forfeited match as they couldn’t secure a new location in time, highlighting the urgent need for a permanent solution. The club, which draws players from the Sleaford and Grantham areas, had just celebrated its 20th anniversary before the closures. The City of Lincoln Council is set to begin the search for a new company to replace Active Nation for the coming two years.
