Brigg Care Home Residents Enjoy Festive Animal Therapy Session

Residents of The Birches care home in Brigg, North Lincolnshire, had the pleasure of participating in an enchanting animal therapy session, which saw their communal lounge turned into a makeshift petting zoo. The visitors from Purple Pig Farm in Pocklington, in East Yorkshire, came carrying various animals such as an owl, rabbits, guinea pigs, a tortoise, and a bearded dragon. This initiative was primarily aimed at providing support to adults with learning disabilities and those on the autism spectrum. It enabled a unique interaction between the residents and the animals prompting discussions and evoking any pleasant memories of childhood pets. “The calm demeanour of the animals enabled everyone to feel at ease and curious,” mentioned Anita Gregory, the manager of the home. “Activities like these genuinely boost people’s confidence while promoting unity within the home, particularly during the festive period.” Resident Tracey Harris expressed her delight stating the visit reminded her of her childhood pets and compounded the festive atmosphere within the home.
