Over 600 presents, encompassing blankets and handmade Christmas cards, are being given to patients throughout Lincolnshire’s hospitals this yuletide. This caring scheme extends to 56 wards at Lincoln County, Boston Pilgrim, and Grantham and District hospitals, reassuring those in hospital over Christmas that they are not forgotten during the festivities. Ben Petts, head of the United Lincolnshire Hospitals Charity, stressed the significance of this gesture, particularly for patients who may not have any other presents.
Volunteers from Cathodic Protection Co, a Grantham-based firm, have played a fundamental role in this initiative, committing their time to unpack and sort 1,000 blankets. Chris Martin, the director, shared his desire to provide a positive influence for those spending Christmas in hospital.
Simultaneously, students from Spalding High School have produced 208 personalised cards in a day, each carrying festive greetings and messages of hope. “We wanted to show our festive spirit because nobody should be overlooked this Christmas,” said Nyla, one of the students. The cards were crafted using techniques such as lino-printing and drawing, with aims of uplifting the recipients’ spirits.
This emotive project underlines the community solidarity and dedication of Lincolnshire inhabitants to enhancing others’ lives during the festive season.
