Humberside Police to Bolster Neighbourhood Watch with 38 New Officers

Humberside Police are set to expand their ranks with the addition of 38 new Neighbourhood Policing Officers, thanks to a sizeable cash injection from the government. The initiative, announced by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, falls under the government’s Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee, which aspires to increase neighbourhood policing roles by over 50% with the addition of 13,000 officers by 2029. Sir Keir emphasised that everyone has a right to feel secure in their neighbourhoods and this move is a step towards restoring proactive, preventive policing. The £200m investment in Neighbourhood Policing for 2025/26 has granted Humberside Police an additional £3.22m to fund these new recruits. Humberside’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Jonathan Evison, expressed his gratitude for the funding, asserting that neighbourhood policing is crucial to the British Policing Model. Newly appointed Chief Constable, Chris Todd, echoed Evison’s sentiments, stating that the new recruits will strengthen local policing and enhance community engagement and trust.
