North Lincolnshire Council has approved the installation of a new wind turbine at Immingham port, in an important step for the region’s shift towards sustainable energy sources. The structure, which will hold a notable height of 492ft, almost as tall as the recognised Humber Bridge, is a key element of Associated British Ports’ (ABP) bold £2bn decarbonisation strategy. This strategy emphasises ABP’s dedication to lowering carbon emissions and advocating for renewable energy sources in Lincolnshire.
The situated location for the turbine will be at the north-western extremity of the Immingham site, where it will provide renewable energy directly into the port’s grid. Despite concerns being voiced over the considerable height of the turbine by South Killingholme Parish Council, a request for reduction to 410ft was not put into practice. The proposal received unanimous backing from the councillors, and it entails the establishment of a £21,000 fund per annum to support community projects in the Immingham area. Concurrently, ABP is seeking consent for a second turbine of similar height and is considering the addition of two more turbines, with each reaching 410ft in height to strengthen their renewable energy pursuits.
