Controversial Housing Plans Approved for Former Quarry Site in Lincoln

Plans for the construction of new homes at a former quarry site on Riseholme Road, Lincoln, have received approval amid debates concerning affordability. Lindum Homes is poised to construct 70 dwellings on the land that was once a source of stone for the city’s iconic cathedral. Despite Lincolnshire County Councillors initially deferring their decision to compile additional data, the scheme received a nod this Monday.

The developer proposed a meagre six affordable homes, attributing this to elevated development costs, a factor which led to deliberations among councillors and locals. Councillor Marianne Overton underlined Lincoln’s urgent demand for affordable housing. In contrast, Councillor Charlotte Vernon voiced her grievance over the minimal affordable provision, which stands at less than 10%.

The site, even though it is not open to the public, hosts a variety of trees and wildlife, igniting concerns among local residents. More detailed information, such as the design and layout of the housing, are yet to be confirmed in future planning applications.
