£1m Footpath Facelift: Over 170 Sites Across Lincolnshire to Benefit

In a commendable move to uplift local infrastructure, Lincolnshire County Council has pledged to spend a whopping £1m for the enhancement of over 170 footpaths across the county. This expansive project, spanning from April to October, will refurbish 77 miles of footpaths across 177 sites.

A micro asphalt surface treatment will be applied to each footpath, a cost-effective method that not only seals and improves the existing path surface but also significantly prolongs its lifespan – potentially by a decade. This treatment also combats water-caused degradation, which often leaves paths uneven and crumbling.

The rejuvenation of these paths will commence in April, with all sites projected to be treated by October’s end. Most of the sites are expected to be completed within a single day, with working hours scheduled between 7.30am to 5pm.

Residents and businesses will be given a week’s notice prior to the beginning of the works. The process will involve applying a thin layer of material, initially liquid, which dries within two hours. Though the material may initially appear unsightly, it soon develops into a hard-wearing surface.

During the works, the footpaths will be temporarily closed. However, pedestrian marshals will be present on-site to provide advisement and assistance regarding closures. The council also assured that they will undertake patching works to ensure a uniform surface for the micro asphalt process. This will include moving back any grass and vegetation blocking the current path and adjusting the levels of the ironwork to conform with the newly laid material.

Footpath upgrades will be undertaken in areas such as North, West, South, and East, covering various locations like Waddington, Gainsborough, Stamford, Heckington, Spalding, and Horncastle, among others.
