Ex-Humberside Police Inspector from North Lincolnshire Avoids Immediate Jail for Child Sex Images

Former Humberside Police inspector, Ian Walpole, 44, of North Lincolnshire, has been handed a suspended sentence at Lincoln Crown Court after being convicted of possessing indecent images of children. Court details disclosed that Walpole had amassed 197 indecent photographs over various devices, with many categorised as particularly serious. Notwithstanding the severity of the crimes and Walpole’s prior position as a police officer, he was given a six-month prison sentence, suspended for 21 months. He is required to register as a sex offender for the next decade and adhere to a sexual harm prevention order for five years. The situation highlights the need for effective safeguarding within the police service, especially in Lincolnshire communities.
