We Are Fish: Lincolnshire Initiative Empowers Neurodivergent Youths

We Are Fish, a community-based not-for-profit organisation, is empowering neurodivergent children and their families in Cleethorpes. Based at Sussex Pavilion, their mission is to provide opportunities for personal growth, social connections, and a sense of belonging. The team specialises in supporting individuals to enhance their health and wellbeing.

Grimsby Live recently attended V.I.B.E.S, a social evening hosted by the group, aimed at fostering inclusivity and nurturing relationships. CEO Sandra Ritchie shares that the initiative was born out of her own experience raising a neurodivergent child and not wanting other parents to navigate the process without support.

V.I.B.E.S provides a social network for neurodivergent young people and their carers. The weekly gathering offers a variety of activities including a calm room, silent disco headsets, and games stations. The organisation is also working on the Proud of Us project, a freestyle academy that will culminate in a show and music videos.

Sheena Cleator, Director and Community Inclusion Lead, emphasises that the space is designed for children to be their authentic selves and develop their own support networks. Jenny Loughran, Autistic Advocate and editor of the online magazine ‘Autistic Revolution’, expressed her appreciation for the group’s approach to supporting neurodivergent young people and their commitment to understanding each individual’s communication style.

We Are Fish offers a place of empowerment, validation, and acceptance for neurodivergent young people and their families, making a significant difference in the Lincolnshire community.
